Food and Drinks Safety and Hygiene

Lab's objective: to become a state-of-the-art resource center in the validation and value addition of scientific and traditional knowledge and practices concerning food and drinks safety and hygiene during manufacturing, processing, distribution, and consumption of food.

Drug Development

The research of this labatory focuses on the study at molecular level of biochemical pathways and processes involve in the development of diseases of medical, veterinary and agronomic interest.

Agricultural engineering and Environment

Objectives: The research of this team focuses on the design, equipment and environmental control of agricultural buildings, on the design manufacture and testing of agricultural equipment on the applications of precision agriculture systems.

Organic and Integrated Crop Production

Research objectives of the Lab, focus on techniques and technologies for high quality, competitive agricultural products using sustainable environmentally-sound management systems.

Wood & Furniture Technology and Design

The laboratory's research focuses on quality control tests of wood and furniture products, design and development of new products and technologies in wood and furniture sector, improvement of production processes in wood.

Itema_logoThe Institute of Technology and Management of Agricultural Ecosystems (ITEMA) is responsible for the promotion of research and services in the areas of sustainable agricultural production, rural environment management and timber technology.In parallel it acts as a coordinator in relevant projects and clusters, affairing SMEs of this specific sector, in the area of Thessaly, Central Greece. It is organized in an administration unit located in the city of Karditsa, and six departments located in the cities of Karditsa and Volos. The Karditsa departments of ITEMA study drug discovery of development, animal husbandry including nutrition and well-being, animal products-production techniques and food traceability and timber technology. The Volos departments of ITEMA address research issues related to integrated and organic production of agricultural products, water and land resources, information and computer technologies in agriculture, agricultural constructions and buildings (greenhouses, livestock buildings), safety management and certification, biomass and biofuel production, and food hygiene.
